Philippine Independence Declared

Image
During the Spanish American War, Filipino rebels led by Emilio Aguinaldo proclaim the independence of the Philippines after 300 years of Spanish rule. By mid-August, Filipino rebels and U.S. troops had ousted the Spanish, but Aguinaldo’s hopes for independence were dashed when the United States formally annexed the Philippines as part of its peace treaty with Spain. The Philippines, a large island archipelago situated off Southeast Asia, was colonized by the Spanish in the latter part of the 16th century. Opposition to Spanish rule began among Filipino priests, who resented Spanish domination of the Roman Catholic churches in the islands. In the late 19th century, Filipino intellectuals and the middle class began calling for independence. In 1892, the Katipunan, a secret revolutionary society, was formed in Manila, the Philippine capital on the island of Luzon. Membership grew dramatically, and in August 1896 the Spanish uncovered the Katipunan’s plans for rebellion, forcing prem...

The Special day for all the Moms

Image
Mother's day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family or individual, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on different days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations, largely pushed by commercial interests, honoring family members, such as Father's day, Siblings day and Grandparents day. Our Mother are like a security blanket to us because she saves us from all problems. She never regards her own problems and listens to us all time. In order to give her respect, second Sunday of May month has been dedicated for her to celebrate the mother's day. This event is of great importance to us and our mothers. "A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in it's path." Its popularity has even benefited the whole tourism industry of the northern region, bringing in tens of thousands of local and foreign tourists curious to explore and have a “northern experience.” Viva Vigan’s week-long festivities have both religious and secular importance. It starts on the 1st of May, when the whole country celebrates Labor Day and Vigan remembers its own Isabelo d...

3rd Quarter What I have learned

Image
During this pandemic Online Class was implemented. This new way of learning is really difficult. As a student we have a lot of challenges that we can face in our everyday life. In our second quarter in ICT subject, I encountered some problems but still I did my best to overcome those challenges. So this quarter we concentrated on community-based research in the third quarter. However, we continue to publish blogs and leave comments on blogs. I learned a lot about our own community by focusing on community-based research. And I was given the opportunity to learn more about our community. I also discovered that community-based research can contribute significantly to our understanding of how local environments affect a population's health. Challenges and failures are necessary for learning. I had some troubles in ICT Subject throughout the third quarter, but I remained calm and tough and tried my best to overcome them. I can say that I learned a lot of lessons on this quarter. And I...

COVID-19 Vaccine

Image
Equitable access to safe and effective vaccines is critical to ending the COVID-19 pandemic, so it is hugely encouraging to see so many vaccines proving and going into development. WHO is working tirelessly with partners to develop, manufacture and deploy safe and effective vaccines.  Safe and effective vaccines are a game-changing tool: but for the foreseeable future we must continue wearing masks, cleaning our hands, ensuring good ventilation indoors, physically distancing and avoiding crowds.  Being vaccinated does not mean that we can throw caution to the wind and put ourselves and others at risk, particularly because research is still ongoing into how much vaccines protect not only against disease but also against infection and transmission. See  WHO's landscape of COVID-19 vaccine candidates for the latest information on vaccines in clinical and pre-clinical development, generally updated twice a week. WHO's COVID-19 dashboard, updated daily, also feat...

On April 9, 1942, officials in command of Bataan where Filipino and American forces maintained the main resistance in the war against the Japanese formally surrendered. Through the Voice of Freedom radio broadcast, Third Lieutenant Normando Ildefonso Reyes reading a message prepared by Captain Salvador P. Lopez informed the Philippines and the world from Malinta Tunnel in Corregidor: “Bataan has Fallen” “Bataan has fallen. The Philippine-American troops on this war-ravaged and bloodstained peninsula have laid down their arms. With heads bloody but unbowed, they have yielded to the superior force and numbers of the enemy.” The siege and defense of Bataan lasted 93 days or just four months after the United States Army Forces in the Far ...
